Planet

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and playing our part in the transition to a more sustainable future. Guided by our Net Zero ambition, we are combining long‑term planning with practical, everyday actions, from reducing emissions and waste to supporting biodiversity and conservation. By working collaboratively and taking a consistent approach, we are building a more responsible and resilient way of operating.

Turning small actions into cleaner oceans

In partnership with our life assurance provider, YuLife, we donated £22,800 to Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, helping to turn our shared values into real environmental impact.

That funding supported the removal of around 9,500kg of plastic from the ocean, roughly the weight of two full‑grown elephants. It also helped power the charity’s schools and youth outreach programme, giving young people a clearer picture of what’s happening to our oceans and the practical steps they can take to protect them.

The impact didn’t stop with funding. Our people took action too, rolling up their sleeves at a beach clean‑up in Prestatyn, Wales. Together, they spent the day removing plastic and other waste from the shoreline, helping to prevent it from being pulled back out to sea and causing further harm to marine life.

Rory Sinclair, CEO of Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, shared the importance of our partnership: “We promote the healing and restoring of the marine environment using education, cleanups, scientific research and technology development. We’ve got 30,000 people around the world helping us with volunteer work, which is growing by the day, and we’re already seeing some positive results with all the work that we’ve been doing over the last few years.

Gateley’s commitment to being a responsible business is more than just a policy, it’s about taking tangible action. By volunteering their time, the team has directly contributed to our mission of restoring the health of our oceans, one coastline at a time.

We are so grateful for the energy and enthusiasm every volunteer brought to the beach. It’s partnerships like these that prove we can create a cleaner, healthier planet when we work together.”

This initiative reflects what being a responsible business means to us. By working alongside partners who share our goals, and by empowering our people to get involved, we’re helping to create a positive, lasting change for the planet.

A clearer view of our footprint

This year, we received our second Net Zero report, giving us a clearer view of our environmental impact. It included verified greenhouse gas emissions data and a baseline carbon reduction plan for FY25, so we were working from evidence, not assumptions.

That matters because good decisions start with a clear picture. With a reliable baseline in place, we can track progress over time, see where emissions are coming from and focus our efforts on where they’ll make the biggest difference.

Bringing Net Zero to life through conversation

Data is only the start. To turn the report into action, we held our first Net Zero workshop, bringing our people together to explore what decarbonisation looks like in practice at Gateley.

We focused on four key areas where we can reduce emissions most effectively:

  • travel and logistics
  • our people
  • our buildings
  • our supply chain

The session produced practical actions we can share across teams, helping everyone play a part in gradually reducing our carbon emissions.

It’s a meaningful step forward. Not because one workshop changes everything overnight, but because it builds a shared understanding and keeps the conversation open and grounded in what we can do.

Looking ahead to 2040

Our commitment is clear: we’re working towards Net Zero by 2040. The report gives us the baseline. The workshop helps us turn that baseline into action, together.

Next, we will keep building momentum by continuing to:

Use data to guide priorities and track progress

Share learning and practical ideas across teams

Keep progress moving through small changes that add up over time

Reaching Net Zero isn’t a one‑off project. It’s a long‑term shift in how we work, and it takes all of us, and the partners and suppliers we work alongside, to make that shift real.

Wellbeing that travels further

Across Gateley, our people take part in everyday wellbeing challenges, from walking and workouts to meditation sessions and puzzles. On their own, they’re small moments to move and feel better. But with YuLife, those moments go beyond personal wellbeing. They turn into support for good causes.

How it works

As our people move, stretch, pause and reset, they collect coins in the YuLife app. Those coins can then be translated into donations that can be directed to good causes. It’s a simple idea that makes it easier to do good, little and often.

What we’ve achieved together

Through everyone’s combined participation, we’ve helped deliver practical, measurable impact:

794

trees planted to help offset carbon emissions

43kg

of plastic removed from the ocean

715

meals donated globally

366000

litres of drinking water provided

Why this is important

This is wellbeing with purpose. It shows what happens when individual actions stack up across a whole community of people.

A lunchtime walk can help someone access a meal. A short meditation session can help fund clean water. A puzzle break can contribute to a cleaner ocean.

It’s a great example of impact moving beyond the business. Not through one big gesture, but through shared effort, sustained over time, and amplified through a winning partnership.
